Four Saturdays, January 18 - February 8 (10:00-11:30 am CT)

Location: 

This is an online class hosted on Zoom. 

 

This class will focus on some carving basics as you create a crest based on traditional Scandinavian crests.

Basswood shields will be provided as well as options for crest designs to pick from. The class structure will be instruction first then time working together online with opportunities for questions as you move along. Enjoy carving at your own pace in between sessions. 

 

Level of Instruction

Class is open to beginners. Strength to open a jar would be a good start.

Supplies: 

A kit of materials including the pre-made basswood coat of arms blank is included in the price of the class.

Please Note: Participants will be providing their own chisels for carving out the blanks, as well as a woodworking station of some sort or a table they can clamp to.

If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact folkartschool@vesterheim.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.

 

Additional Supplies:

Students will need to provide a computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and mic as well as a fast, reliable internet connection.

Special Instructions:  

When registering for the class, please make sure to use the mailing and email addresses you'd like the Zoom meeting invitations sent to. You will receive links to the Zoom sessions by email sometime during the week prior to the class. If this class is a gift, please sign up with the recipient's mailing and email addresses or be prepared to forward the kit and all communications.
