Stacey Ann Rekkedahl – Modern Day Norwegian Trunk
The rosemaled Norwegian trunk that my great-great-grandfather brought with him as he landed on Ellis Island is a cherished family heirloom. It held his world as he boarded a ship headed to America. As I moved across the country twice this past year, I did a lot of packing using iconic cardboard moving boxes, carefully labeling them with the contents and at time the word "fragile." It dawned on me that this is the modern means of transporting belongings is like the Norwegian trunks of times gone by. As a nod to the old and a push to the future, I rosemaled a moving box that served me well and which will continue to serve me again during my next move! Who knows, a century from now my trusty cardboard moving box might become another cherished family heirloom.
