Description

A tin lamp from the Vesterheim collection serves as the inspiration for this class. Starting with a flat sheet of tinplate, you will cut, shape, and solder tinplated steel to make a reproduction. The intricate designs will be made using a hammer and punches, then the lamp will be formed from the pierced pieces into a lantern. Patterns and guidance will be provided.

Prerequisites

Hand strength is required.

Supplies

The instructor will provide tools and supplies with a materials fee of $30, payable to the instructor in cash or check.

Additional Supplies

If you have your own, please bring the following:

  • Leather work glove
  • Sharpie marker
  • Paper and pencil
  • Tin snips
  • Scratch awl
  • Hammer
  • Wooden or leather mallet
  • Smooth jawed pliers
  • Steel punches
