2026-02-07 – Figure Carving for Everyone (In-Person)

This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.
This is a beginner-friendly woodcarving class that covers the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to sculpt beautiful figures from wood. Throughout the course, we will cover essential safety protocols, wood selection, tool identification and usage, basic carving methods, sharpening tips, and applying finishes to your creations.
We will begin with a simple project that will help you build a solid foundation in wood carving. As you progress, you will have the freedom to choose your own unique wood carving project, whether it be a figure or an ornament, the choice is up to you!
Level of Instruction:
Open to beginners, appropriate for carvers of all levels
Supplies:
Tools will be provided. Students will need to pay for their own wood blanks that will be available from the instructor and/or from Vesterheim Museum Store during class.
