2026-01-08 – Sewing a Historical Pocket (Online)
Schedule:
Four Thursdays, January 8-29 (6:00-7:30 pm CT)
Instructor:
Steph Anderson
Location:
This is an online class hosted on Zoom.
When pockets (which were small self-contained bags) first came into women's lives, they were used, not only to carry essential items, but also as a way to show needle skills and self expression (even when they were worn under the dresses and couldn't be seen). Join Stephenie in creating your own pocket!
In this class you will have the option to use a premade pattern or design your own. We will learn some embroidery stitches and attach your pocket onto a "kiss closure." The sewing of this pocket can be done with a machine or by hand with the sewing needles that will be provided. In the end you will have a pocket that reflects Norwegian heritage but expresses your unique style.
Supplies:
This class includes a kit shipped to your home with wool, lining fabric, clasp, tapestry yarns, water soluble interfacing, tapestry needles, and a sewing needle (a $55 value).
Students will need to provide a computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and mic as well as a fast, reliable internet connection.
If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact folkartschool@vesterheim.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.
