Artist Statement:
This is a sending basket painted in the Hallingdal style and with the addition of silver adornments. We are both artists that create with our feet firmly planted in the past (doing things with traditional materials, in traditional ways, inspired by old pieces) as well as always looking to push ourselves to do things that are hard and new. Collaborating cross-discipline is an exciting way to do that. This is our first time working together and hopefully not our last.
Inscription Translation: May you know right from wrong and see the lights from the shore. May you grow in righteousness and always be true.

Tonya started rosemaling in 2014 and is menotred by Judith Kjenstad. Tonya was an American Scandinavian Foundation fellow in 2021 and has received her Vesterheim Gold Medal in Rosemaling in 2024. She ahs degrees in Chemical Engineering and Intercultural Leadership.
Liz creates jewelry and body adornment inspired by Scandinavian folklore and myth. A goldsmith for over 30 years, she holds a master's degree in metalworking and jewelry from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and has trained in traditional jewlry and metal working techniques in Ireland and Norway.
