Artist Statement:
This large hand-built bowl was made from a large stoneware clay slab and fashioned from an existing bowl used as mold. Telemark rosemaling was hand painted to adorn the inside of the bowl, and the Norwegian Table Prayer was hand painted around the rim to provide a lovely border to encase the rosemaling and any contents placed inside the bowl. All glazes used are food safe, so this is a functional art.

Maren began rosemaling in 2016 when she asked for Telemark rosemaling instructional books for Christmas. She is 5/8ths Norwegian and grew up with rosemaling adorning many pieces in her family homes. Norwegian culture and tradition were a huge part of her life. She always have loved making art, painting specifically being her favorite medium. When she was retiring from the military in 2020, she took a ceramics class with her daughter and discovered how lovely rosemaling looked on ceramics. That adventure turned into many ceramics classes and now a home studio.
