Description
This four-week course offers an engaging introduction to the ins and outs of Norwegian pronunciation. Together, we’ll explore the rhythm, stress, and melody of spoken Norwegian and take a closer look at what makes its pronunciation unique—especially compared to English. Students will learn the basics of the Norwegian sound system, discover how speech sounds are made, and practice using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to read and write pronunciation symbols.
We’ll also listen to examples from different Norwegian dialects and talk about what these variations reveal about language and identity. By the end of the course, students will understand the key features and patterns of Norwegian pronunciation and apply this knowledge to improve their own speaking and listening skills.

This class is designed for students who have completed all four levels of Norwegian language instruction through Vesterheim or have a similar level of language independence. Please email folkartschool@vesterheim.org if you have questions.
