2025-08-04 – Silversmithing: The Advanced Jeweler’s Palette (In-Person)

This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.
Do you like playing with fire? This course is for jewelers who have some skills but would like to take it to the next level. If you have felt like you are missing some of the vital information and techniques of silversmithing, this class is for you.
This class will give you a little more freedom to cultivate your designs and use more advanced techniques to turn them into reality. The class will be structured to show you how to accomplish specific techniques and then allow you to practice your new techniques over three days. Once you have learned instructions, it’s time to play with fire!
We will cover advanced soldering techniques and build on what you already know. We will also focus on making bezels and prongs for gemstones and fabricating techniques for rings, earrings, pendants, or small sølje brooches. Stone setting and forming sterling silver will also be covered in this class.
Level of Instruction:
It is recommended that students take the class Silversmithing: The Jewelers Palette or get permission from the instructor.
Supplies:
Students will start class with an initial kit of jewelry materials with payment directly to the instructor. The materials fees will be collected at the conclusion of class, since additional sterling silver and gemstones will be available for purchase. (The materials fee varies based on what is used by each student, but will likely be $150+.) All the tools to create your masterpiece will be provided by the instructor for use during class. (Tools are not included in the materials fees.)
