Description
Create a cherished family heirloom that will bring light and joy every holiday season.
Starting with a porcelain tree shape, students will apply a variety of Nordic holiday symbols such as nisse, cardamom roll, woven heart, fjord horse, waffle, straw goat, Dala horse, Lucia bun, mittens, and socks. The symbols are made using templates and spring molds, and are then attached to the tree and painted with colorful under-glazes.
The instructor will bisque fire the luminaries at her home studio, then glaze and fire them a second time before returning them to Vesterheim for students to pick up about 2-3 weeks later. (NOTE: if student are unable to pick-up their luminary, there will be an additional fee for shipping)
Prerequisites
Fine motor skills and attention to detail are useful skills for this class.
Supplies
Materials fee of $45 includes the porcelain clay, under-glazes, kiln firings, and an LED light for the completed luminary.
