2025-05-16 – Forging Fundamentals: Wall Hooks (In-Person)
Schedule:
May 16-18 (9:00-5:00 pm CT)
Instructor:
Paul Nyborg
Location:
This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School in the new forging classroom.
In this course students will learn about the basics of blacksmithing. Some of the techniques that will be covered include upsetting, drawing, twisting, bending, cutting, and punching. We will work on making a wall mounted hook. The design can vary based on student interest and skill level. All the techniques will be covered but students will not have to use all the techniques in their project to leave with a successful wall hook.
Blacksmithing can be physically demanding. Students will need to be able to stand for longer periods of time, have the strength to grip and swing a hammer, and the ability to withstand some heat from the forge.
