This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.
Let's explore the concept of friluftsliv by spending time together celebrating the outdoors. We will connect with each other and nature through walks and activities, observations and explorations, and lots of fun – all outside! There will be time to relax and enjoy the beauty around us while also learning how to live in harmony with the plants and animals in our midst. Friluftsliv is not just an activity, it's the idea of living a full outdoor life with nature at the core. Our weekly outdoor excursions will help us connect in nature to bring more peace, balance, and well-being to our lives! Plan to be outdoors in Vesterheim Heritage Park or on nearby trails as much as possible. Please dress for all weather. An after-school snack will be provided.
Level of Instruction:
This program is designed for youth in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade (about ages 5-7).
Supplies:
Please wear or bring clothes appropriate for the weather and a water bottle. If your child has special dietary needs, please consider providing their own snack.
Additional Information:
Norsk Skole will begin each class at Vesterheim's Bruening Welcome Center in the Westby-Torgerson Education Center at the corner of Mechanic and Water Streets. A Folk Art School staff member will be there to greet students as they arrive. Vesterheim Folk Art School will offer a walking school bus for any Friluftsliv Klubb registrants coming from John Cline School. If your child attends John Cline and would like to "ride" the walking school bus, please email Folk Art School staff directly. For participants coming from Carrie Lee School, parents can coordinate through the Carrie Lee office for students to meet and walk to Vesterheim together. Montessori or homeschooled students can be dropped off or walk on their own to Vesterheim.
