2025 Icons of Scandinavia Holiday Ornament – Nordic Trunk with Rosemaling
Rosemaling trunks have been around a long time in Scandinavia. Handmade wooden trunks were the earliest ways of storing and transporting belongings. They were often elaborately hand painted in rosemaling with a person's name and farmstead included in the artwork.
During the time of emigration to the United States, these trunks took on special importance, as they held the immigrant's belongings while they made the long journey across the ocean to a new home.
2025 is the 200th Anniversary of the first organized group of emigrants from Norway to the United States. This year's ornament celebrates both the artwork of the Nordic trunk and the 200 years of emigration to the US.
