Vesterheim is published twice a year, featuring in-depth articles focusing on the museum's priceless collections of artifacts, Norwegian-American history and culture, and up-to-date information on all museum events, classes, tours, and education opportunities.

Vesterheim began at Luther College, which observed its 150th anniversary in 2011. The anniversary celebration of our parent institution afforded us a chance to take a historical look back at Norwegian-American education in its many guises, examine the controversies that helped form it, and highlight the important contributions it has made in preserving and promoting ethnic culture.

This issue's theme is "Education and Culture" and it features an article by Jennifer Kovarik detailing the Norwegian-American colleges and how it was a difficult process in "Unbending Purpose: How Conflict, Controversy, and Stubbornness Shaped the Founding of Norwegian-American Lutheran Colleges in the Nineteenth Century."

This issue also includes an article on the education of women by L. DeAne Lagerquist entitled "Useful and Sweet: Educating Young Norwegian-American Women," and an excerpt from "From the Autobiography of Ole G. Felland" edited by Jeff M. Sauve.
