The Rose Painters by Lars Skorpen

This book is about some of the rose painters in Os, Norway, both the creators of the art and craft as well as their successors. They were not chosen at random, but are the forbears of Torunn Rod Farsund, who is one of the most distinct bearers of the tradition today.

This book is about the people who wielded the paintbrush. We quickly find that the rose painting tradition in Os leads us nearly two hundred years back in time to the early 1800's and then we follow the same family across the border to Samnanger. Torunn is the sixth generation of this family to paint Rosemaling in Os.
