Crafts in the Nordenfjell Region by Jon Suul

Through text and photographs, this book gives us an enthusiastic encounter with the central parts of Norwegian cultural heritage. The old craft traditions are presented and documented in a concrete and understandable way. The author has collected and documented a completely unique range of materials.

All places have their own distinctive local traditions, and while there are many similarities between different places, the material in this book is from Størdalen, Meråker, Selbu and Tydal. As readers, we gain insights into the old craftsmen who were responsible for the production of household goods, movable goods, and tools. Through this knowledge, the objects are transformed into something living, something far more than historyless interiors. In this book, we get answers to key questions such as which craftsmen were responsible for the work and where they came from.

Crafts from Stjørdalen and Neadalen constitute a cultural geographical region, among other things through mining operations. The region thus has ties to Trondhjem, Røros/Gauldalen, Innherred and Jamtland. We encounter objects with local origins, but also with origins from far away.
