Description
In this class, students will learn the traditional Swedish art of Kurbitsmålning – the decorative folk painting seen in northern Sweden. We will explore the history of this craft, its bright colors, and the flowing floral patterns that make it unique.
Vesterheim will supply each participant with a wooden Dala horse, paints, and brushes. Step-by-step, you’ll learn traditional kurbits techniques—how to create the flowing leaf shapes, bold outlines, and vibrant color combinations that make these horses so special. By the end of the class, you’ll have a beautifully painted Dala horse of your own, along with a deeper appreciation for this cherished piece of Swedish folk art.
