Description
Explore a world of textures with this advanced pictorial project with an adorable gnome theme! Shading, floats, Rya, soumak, beading, embroidery, and even an Icelandic tufting technique tamed by needle felting are part of the repertoire building in this whimsical project. Finished tapestry is approximately 9 x 10.5 inches. Advance your skills, try new techniques, and celebrate the adventure of winter and whimsy on your loom. Gnome and nisse stories sure to follow.
Prerequisites
Previous tapestry experience is essential. If you have not taken Laura’s introductory class, please reach out!
Supplies
A complete kit of materials, valued at $80, includes hand-dyed wool yarn from the instructor’s sheep, felting needles, embroidery needle, and a PDF of detailed instructions with photos, as well as a sweet treat from Vesterheim. It is included in the cost of registration and will be mailed to you!
If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact folkartschool@vesterheim.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.
Additional Supplies
Students will need to provide:
- 18 x 18 inch frame loom used in Laura’s introductory classes or tapestry loom of your choice of appropriate size that accommodates 8 epi.
- Warp: Thinner but strong cotton, linen, seine twine, or wool warp.
- Small tools customary for tapestry, such as comb, needles, etc.
Students will need to provide a computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and mic as well as a fast, reliable internet connection.

When registering for the class, please make sure to use the mailing and email addresses you'd like the Zoom meeting invitations sent to. You will receive links to the Zoom sessions by email sometime during the week prior to the class. If this class is a gift, please sign up with the recipient's mailing and email addresses or be prepared to forward the kit and all communications.
