Description

In this class, you will paint your own acrylic Dala horse. Instructor Tara Austin started rosemaling these acrylic Dala horses in 2019. They are fabricated at Northern Acrylic in Duluth, Minnesota. While learning about the history and styles of rosemaling, you will decorate one side of the horse in oil paint using a provided pattern.

Prerequisites

Students signing up for this class should have some basic experience with at least one style of rosemaling.

Supplies

There will be a $45 materials fee for the acrylic Dala horse, which will be provided at class.

Please bring the following: 

  • Brushes
    • # 4 filbert and/or #6 filbert
    • a liner of your choice (Instructor uses size 0 and/or 1)
  • Palette paper (for mixing paints)
  • Palette knife
  • Cloth rags or paper towels
  • Linseed Oil or Walnut Oil
  • Odorless paint thinner or brush cleaner – available at  most local hardware stores
  • Murphy’s Oil Soap for cleaning brushes
  • Jar with cover for paint thinner
  • ARTIST OIL PAINT COLORS 
    • Titanium White
    • Prussian Blue
    • Raw Umber
    • Yellow Ochre
    • Burnt Sienna, Oxide Red or English Red 
    • Cadmium Red light
