2026-09-26 – Decorating Wood with Kroting and Svidekor
Class Details
- Schedule: September 26-27 (9:00 am-5:00 pm CT)
- Location: This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.
-
Instructor: Rebecca Hanna
- Level of Instruction: Beginner Friendly
Description
Do you have a piece of woodenware or carving but are not sure how to decorate or enhance it? For those of us who aren’t talented rosemalers, alternate options are possible! We'll learn two types of surface decorating – kroting, cutting lines into wood after it has been painted or stained, and svidekor, burning small patterns and symbols into wood with a heated tool. Rest assured, any skill level can do this!
Supplies
Participants will need to bring or purchase woodenware (or your own carved pieces) and a list of supplies will be sent out before the class. Woodenware is available in Vesterheim Museum Store.
Enrollment Deadline
September 4, 2026
Woodcarving classes are supported by a generous gift to the Vesterheim Annual Fund from the Eric and Joan Norgaard Charitable Trust.
