2026-09-12 – Beginning Rosemaling Through Christmas Ornaments

Description
In this class, students will decorate two wooden Christmas ornaments with rosemaling while learning basic painting skills and rosemaling history and gaining an understanding of rosemaling terminology. Class atmosphere is fun and supportive for first time painters. Simple designs will be provided based on traditional "C" and "S" strokes that allow students to learn base skills while completing their first rosemaling project. This is the beginning of a student's rosemaling journey, setting the stage to success in future rosemaling classes.
Supplies
There will be a $20 materials fee payable to the instructor at the start of class to cover the following supplies.
- background paint, your choice in color
- oil paints for rosemaling, your choice in what colors you would like to use
- palette paper
- tracing paper
- transfer paper
- brush cleaner
- palette knives
- containers for oil paint
- paint medium.
Students may also wish to purchase brushes, ornaments, and any other supplies they feel they need through the museum store. The instructors will be available to help guide students and answer any questions they may have about which brushes are best for this class.
