Description
Join master woodworker Hans Sandom for an in-depth exploration of acanthus carving. The acanthus leaf has been an iconic element of Western design for thousands of years and has a deep influence on Norwegian folk arts. Hans will present you with complex projects and advanced elements of design and will also cover design and carving techniques. This is a good class for those interested in large-scale acanthus projects.
Prerequisites
Students should have a strong base of understanding of carving.
Supplies
There will be a $100 materials fee, paid directly to the instructor during class.

- #1 Chisel 30-32 mm or 25 mm & 3-4 mm
- #2 Skew 16 mm or 20 mm
- #3 Gouge 8 mm, 16 mm, & 25 mm
- #4 Gouge 8 mm, 13 mm, 18-20 mm
- #5 Gouge 8 mm-10 mm, & 20 mm
- #6 Gouge 8 mm & 16 mm
- #7 Gouge 10 mm 14 mm
- #11 Veiner 3 mm & 6 mm
- #22 Skew spoon chisel 3-5 mm
- V tool 6-8 mm
Special Note from the Instructor: Bring all carving tools you have, you probably will need them. I often note that students wish they had tools they could have brought.
