2026-03-27 – Forging Bottle Opener (In-Person)

This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.
In this course students will learn about the basics of forging a bottle opener. Some of the techniques that will be covered include upsetting, drawing, twisting, bending, cutting, and punching. The design can vary based on student interest and skill level. Various techniques will be covered but students will not have to use all the techniques in their project to leave with a successful bottle opener.
Level of Instruction:
Open to beginners and all levels. Blacksmithing can be physically demanding. Students will need to be able to stand for longer periods of time, have the strength to grip and swing a hammer, and the ability to withstand some heat from the forge.
Supplies:
There will be a materials fee payed directly to the instructor for the metal.
If students are able to bring their own tools, here is a list of helpful tools:
- Hot work chisel
- Smaller Radius Fullers 1/8 or 3/16
- Center punch fro the eye
- Gloves
- Eye and ear protection
