2025-11-23 – Count Your Blessings: Rosemaling a Harvest Basket (Online)
Schedule:
November 23 (9:30 am-Noon and 1:30-4:00 pm CT)
Instructor:
Patti Goke VGM
Location:
This is an online class hosted on Zoom.
When instructor Patti Goke asked herself, "What am I thankful for?," one of the answers was the paintings she saw on the 2025 Vesterheim Folk Art Study Tour. Many of these were painted by Olav Hansson, an early and important rosemaler from Telemark.
In this project class for intermediate and advanced painters, we will work together on a design based on the ceiling of the Rambergstua at Brekkenparken Museum in Skien, Norway. On the ceiling was a cornucopia with various Hansson-like flowers that overflowed out of it. Hansson painted the ceiling in 1788!
In this class, participants will learn a bit of history about Olav Hansson, view pictures from the tour of Hansson’s works including biblical themes, study the Hansson piece in the Vesterheim collection, and paint a project with a cornucopia! You can paint on an object of your choice. The design will fit 8.5 x 11 inches. Be inspired by the pictures, be inspired by the project, and let your mind wander to explore how you can take something traditional and make it contemporary or to your taste.
