2025-10-18 – Chip Carving Ornaments (In-Person)

IP.2025.Q4.49
$185.00

Schedule:

October 18-19 (9:00 am-5:00 pm CT)

Instructor:

Charlene Lynum

Location:

This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.

What is more fun than hand-carved ornaments? Give them away to friends and family or decorate your own home or Christmas tree. These smaller projects are perfect for the beginning carver.

The basics lessons covered in class will include safety, holding the knife, types of wood and grain, and transferring patterns. You will learn basic chips – the 3-sided chip, a line, and the 4-sided chip. You will also learn the order in which the chips should be removed, carving the center (focal point) where points come together, how to insert a hanger, and finishing.

You'll create beautiful patterns and designs and leave with some finished ornaments and the skills to make more on your own!

Level of Instruction:

This is a beginner friendly class. Note: Chip carving is an art that requires some hand strength.

Supplies:

There will be a $30 materials fee paid directly to the instructor.
