2024-09-16 – Flammegarn: Introduction to Natural Dyeing (Online)

This is an online class hosted on Zoom. 

Learn the basics of natural dyeing and Norwegian-inspired methods for layering color. From mordanting to using dye extracts, you'll explore various techniques, including modifying colors with the potential to create multi-color effects through using flammegarn techniques that are perfect for knitting or weaving.

During this two-week class, we'll learn the dyeing process together, and you will complete your dyeing throughout the week. You will be able to decide how you want to dye your yarn.

Supplies: 

A kit of supplies including locally made yarn, dye, and mordants (a $40 value) is included in the cost of registration. Students will need to supply: a container to dye in (stainless steel pot, large glass mason jar, or similar), gloves (optional), vinegar (optional). 

Also, students will need to provide a computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and mic as well as a fast, reliable internet connection.

If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact folkartschool@vesterheim.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.
