2024-09-11 – Foundations of Acanthus: From Drawing to Carving

IP.2024.Q3.43
$350.00

Schedule:

September 11-15 (9:00 am-5:00 pm CT)

Instructor:

Jock Holmen

Location:

This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.

Drawing is the foundation that carving is built on. Drawing acanthus sets, shapes, and curves, including shading in the drawing, adds a three-dimensional understanding. With drawing knowledge, the transition to carving with a chisel becomes much easier.

In this class, you will learn the basics of acanthus drawing and carving through good technique and practice to confidently and joyfully explore acanthus carving beyond this class. Jock Holmen will cover the elements of acanthus design, starting with drawing basic shapes to creating elegant, ornate leaf and scroll designs in wood.
