This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.

 

Join folk artist and culture-bearer Hege Nilsen in this four-day class and learn to make traditional coastal Sámi handbags. From leatherwork to pewter thread braiding and embroidery to mica embellishments, you will learn and recreate the folk art still made by this group of Scandinavia's indigenous people. This class provides an opportunity to learn traditional art and cultural practices, giving your handbag a special significance and craftsmanship that makes it truly unique.

 

Level of Instruction:

All levels. No experience is needed.  

Supplies:

  • Materials for one handbag and one bracelet is included in the cost of the class. Additional materials can be purchased during class.
