2024-07-13 Using Arts and Culture to Imagine the Future (Webinar)

OL.2024.Q3.90
$0.00

Schedule:

Saturday, July 13 (11:00 am-Noon CT)

Instructor:

Anne Beate Hovind

Location:

This is an online class hosted on Zoom.

Class description:

Hovind says, "Living in today's modern world, it is easy to experience an anxiety-inducing uncertainty of what the future holds; we only know that change will come quickly and that it will be disruptive, and this inability to comfortably predict the future – even ten years out – makes it risky to undertake long-term projects. The increasing inundation of change that we now face greatly shrinks our time horizon and keeps us hyper-focused only on the immediate future. Reflecting on past cultural practices can help contemporary artists imagine a future where the arts, culture, and traditional handcraft not only survives, but thrives."

Based on her experience as Chairwoman of The Future Library Trust, Hovind will share her learnings from a project whose outcome will unfold far beyond our lives. Join us for this webinar to learn about emotional design, linear vs. explorative design, long-term thinking vs. short-termism, and much more.

Supplies:

Students will need to provide a computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and mic as well as a fast, reliable internet connection.
