2024-06-04 – Viksdal Style Rosemaling (Online)

This is an online class hosted on Zoom. 

Come paint with us and learn about the current revival of Viksdal rosemaling through the efforts of the Eldrich family of Viksdalen that is snuggled in the Sunnfjord area of Western Norway. History and symbolism are painted using simple C and S strokes, dots and dashes, and elongated teardrops. This typical Viksdal design is painted on a 12” shallow bowl using only three colors on a black background. The design features elements from the Iron Age and the Viking Age, iconography from Christianity, and a touch of an old wives tale.

This class will be taught in oil paints.

Included in the cost of registration for this class is a kit of materials valued at $75! Students will need to provide a computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and mic as well as a fast, reliable internet connection.

If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact folkartschool@vesterheim.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.
