Darlene Fossum-Martin

This is an online class hosted on Zoom.

Explore the art of kolrosing/kolskurd , decorative incising on wood in the Norwegian tradition.

In class we will learn  about suitable wood choices and how to prepare the wood surface; how to effectively hold the knife to cut a design properly; care and honing of your kolrosing knife; and finishing your piece.

Darlene will emphasize the basics of kolrosing using insizing techniques- both straight and curved lines, cross hatching, and shading with the stippling technique, plus the use of micro tools.

The class will include a short history of kolrosing along with a powerpoint presentation of pieces decorated with kolrosing from Vesterheim's collection and from museums throughout Norway.
