Artist Statement: This bracelet is a combination of glass beading technique of western Norway and historic "pick-up" band weaving. Scouring resources to historic band patterns from the Amli district of southern Norway, the historic pattern of a five-strand pick up " XOX " was selected as the mid band. The "goats hoof" of Telemark was used as the outer bands to complete the design.

The XOX motifs exist to protect the wearer with a barrier to confuse the evils of the world. I designed this piece as a modern homage to folk art and beauty of the Norwegian past. I’ve been investigating the process and product of band weaving and noticed the reoccurring band motifs that mark region/valley, and the bands use as a shield to protect and repel evil.
