Making a Woodcut Print

This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.


Join celebrated artist and printmaker Carl Homstad to learn the basics of black and white woodcut printmaking and an introduction to color woodcuts. Students will learn basic relief carving techniques for woodblock printing as well as inking and printing skills. Get creative and make something original or bring photos of a beloved landscape to inspire your work. This is a great opportunity to create your holiday cards!


Level of Instruction:

All levels. No experience is needed.  


  • Students should bring a set of palm-style wood carving tools. These are on order and will be available for purchase in the Museum Store soon. Please call for details. 
  • Wear an apron and clothes that can get messy. 
  • The instructor will provide all other tools. 
  • There will be a fee of $20 per student in cash or check to the instructor to cover the materials provided including ink, paper, and wood.
