Tele Rogaland Bowl with Colorful Roses by Trudy Peach
This is an Embellishment exhibit piece. Available to pick up or have shipped after January 5, 2024.
Artist Statement: Various techniques were used on the borders such as lazuring, vertical lines to create eye movement, elegant linework painted over a wash of color, and gold dividing the blue and red banding on the exterior of the bowl. It is backgrounded in acrylics and painted in oils. This Scandinavian style bowl was turned by Jack McGowan. The structure of the bowl inspired me to paint this piece with roses. I studied roses I had previously painted with Bergljot Lunde and Sigrid Midjås from Norway, and old folios of Knut Hovden. I was excited by the many colors Knut incorporated on his pieces.
I have been rosemaling for approximately 45 years. My first rosemaling class was at the Milwaukee Vo-Tech in 1969 taught by Inga Peterson. I received a Vesterheim Gold Medal in Rosemaling in 1986. Currently, I instruct classes in Old Rogaland, Os, and Agder styles
