2023-03-26 – Sogninger Pulsvarmer

Friday, March 24-Sunday, March 26, 2023 (9:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-5:00 pm)

Susan Kolstad

This is an in-person class hosted at the Vesterheim Folk Art School in Decorah, Iowa.

With inspiration from a published Magazinet Bunad project, you will explore sometimes overlooked lace patterns found in garments and accessories of Norway. The class focus, a pulsvarmer (wrist warmer), is a small project. It is easily transportable for summer knitting and has can be knit with fine-gauge wool or cooler cotton/linen fibers. The project includes a decorative fringe border.

  • For the yarn, we will be using Rauma Gammelserie. This is available at Blue Heron Knittery, our local yarn store here in Decorah. If you have Gammelserie in your stash, feel free to bring it to class. Otherwise, we will be going down to Blue Heron so that you can purchase yarn. The cost of a skein of Gammelserie is approximately $8.
  • In addition to yarn, students will need:
    • knitting needles (2mm)
    • stitch marker
    • tapestry needle
    • sewing needle

This class is designed for students who are comfortable with casting-on and binding-off, knitting in the round with double-pointed needles, and with knit and purl stitches.

Enrollment Deadline:
