2023-05-11 – Homemade Rye Crispbread, Knäckebröd (Online)

This is an online class hosted on Zoom.  

While crispbread might seem like just a cracker, Scandinavians see it as another form of bread and serve it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and as a snack in between meals. Want to learn to make your own crispbread at home? Join Kristi Bissell for a hands-on opportunity to bake a batch of rye and oat crispbread in your own kitchen (and learn some delicious and inventive ways of putting that crispbread to good use!). Participants will be provided with a shopping list and recipes prior to class.

This Vesterheim cooking class is designed as a small-group cook-along, and we invite exchange between the instructor and students in order to build community around food traditions. In this same spirit of sharing, we invite the whole family to experience this collaborative cooking and learning process. Only one registration is needed per household.

Supplies:

A kruskavel (notched rolling pin) is nice to have but not absolutely necessary. Kruskavels are available from the Museum Store here.

Recipes will be sent to you approximately one week prior to class. Students will need to provide ingredients for the recipes, a computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and microphone as well as a fast, reliable internet connection. 

If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact folkartschool@vesterheim.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.
