Harford Belle Duck Decoy by Lise Lorentzen
This is an Embellishment exhibit piece. Available to pick up or have shipped after January 5, 2024.
Artist Statement: When I moved to Bel Air 13 years ago, I came across many wonderful duck decoys that lent themselves beautifully to the flowing C and S strokes of rosemaling. "Harford Belle" is my tribute to the local decoy culture and a melding of my rosemaling traditions to my community. I hope that the flowing Telemark stroke work and the embellishments that tie the strokes together evoke a feeling of joy and movement through this duck.
I’ve been rosemaling since 1980 and fortunate to study under many renowned Norwegian and American artists. In 2009, I completed a New York State council of the Arts (NYSCA) folk arts apprenticeship program studying under her mentor Eldrid Arntzen. I have a BA degree in Art History and an MS degree in Special Education. I reside in Maryland with my husband and three children
