2023-11-10 – Carving a Horse Head Ale Bowl (In Person)

Friday, November 10-Sunday, November 12, 2024 ( 9:00am–12:00pm, 1:00pm–5:00pm CT)

Becky Lusk

This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.

Horsehead ale bowls are one of the more iconic forms of Norwegian folk art. We will carve a horsehead ale bowl from a bandsawn basswood blank. Students will then decorate their ale bowls with chipcarving or incised decoration. Acrylic paints and a beeswax finish will be used to get our ale bowls ready for beer.

Bandsawn blanks will be available for purchase from the instructor for $30-40. Paints/finishes will be provided by instructor. See full supply list here.

Enrollment Deadline:

October 20, 2023
