C Scroll Later Alligator Bowl by Stacey Ann Kimbrough
This is an Embellishment exhibit piece. Available to pick up or have shipped after January 5, 2024.
Artist Statement: It wasn't too long ago that I dreamt of an alligator eating all my beautiful rosemaling. It seems that even my dreams are embellished with the Norwegian folk arts! Working with a nontraditional animal for rosemaling, it was important to make these two worlds cohesive. I was able to do all the specific scrolls and line work that this style of painting is known for and merged it with my vision of an alligator.
I am a contemporary Norwegian folk artist who grew up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Nature was my second home, and when I couldn't be outside, I found a way to bring it indoors through rosemaling, like what my ancestors would have done in the fjords of Norway. Currently, I am pursuing a career in the folk arts and have been breaking away from the hundred-year-old traditions in rosemaling to make a style that is uniquely mine.
