This is an Embellishment exhibit piece. Available to pick up or have shipped after January 5, 2024.
Artist Statement:
Rosemaling was a decorative way to beautify everyday objects and I want to bring that functionality back into this art form. By following the grain of the wood and basing my lines of the natural pattern, I aim to embellish what is already there.
I am a contemporary Norwegian folk artist who grew up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Nature was my second home, and when I couldn't be outside, I found a way to bring it indoors through rosemaling, like what my ancestors would have done in the fjords of Norway. Currently, I am pursuing a career in the folk arts and have been breaking away from the hundred-year-old traditions in rosemaling to make a style that is uniquely mine.
