American Rogaland Rosemaling

Ruth Green

In this class, Ruth will provide designs in the American Rogaland style. Ruth is influenced by the rosemaling of both Bjerljot Lunde and Vi Thode. The class project is a rectangular box, approximately 15 x 9 x 5 inches high. The lid has a handle in the center. There will be a second optional project, a round covered bowl approximately 3 inches high with an 8-inch diameter lid. The projects will be available through the Vesterheim Museum Store. The class will be taught in oils, but proficient acrylic painters are most welcome. Patterns and palette mixes (both oil and acrylic) will be provided. Students may paint on wood or on prepared practice surfaces during the class.

This is an in-person class held at Vesterheim Folk Art School.

About the Instructor

Ruth Green is an established rosemaling painter in the Rogland style. Her background includes an art major from college. She was introduced to the Rogaland style in a Vesterheim class taught by Vi Thode. The style's design structure and colors fit with how Ruth likes to paint. She has enjoyed teaching and creating pieces for commission work. But most of all she appreciates getting to meet other rosemaling friends. Ruth earned her Vesterheim Gold Medal in 2012.
