2024-10-03 – Traditional Telemark Style Rosemaling (In Person)

Discover the freedom that comes with freehand Telemark painting using round brushes, while finding inspiration from old pieces. Other topics that will be demonstrated include how to finger paint flowers; how to paint fast and beautiful transparent Telemark; how to prepare surfaces with casein-based (milk) paint and linseed oil; and how to glazing pieces after painting to enliven and instantly age them. Acrylic painters are welcome, but the class will be taught in oils.

- Brushes
- (2) size 6 short handle liner (Princeton Heritage 4050)
- (2) size 2 short handle liner (Princeton Heritage 4050) or Isabel 6222 size 2 are great choices, or other long liner that holds paint well.
- *The instructor prefers sable brushes, but they are harder to find right now. The Princeton brushes are inexpensive and decent.
- Oil paints
- Venetian
- Alizarin Crimson
- Indigo

- Mars Black
* Bring the paints that you have, but if you are purchasing a color, Windsor and Newton artists oils are preferred (not Winton).
- Other Supplies
- Linseed oil (this is what the instructor used, but you can bring any medium you choose)
- Turpentine or other preferred solvent (must remain covered)

Lard oil, vaseline, or other brush conditioner of your choice
- Paper towels
- Notebook
- 2 backgrounded panels at least 12” x 12”
- one in a Venetian red-type color and another in a different medium-value color. These can be cardboard/cereal box or thin plywood, like birch. You can use acrylic for this, or milk paint if you already own it. Please background paint and lightly sand.
- Palette of you our choice, or palette paper
- Soapstone pencil (if you have one)
- If you would like to paint on wood, as well, the 10” Shallow Bowl (SKU: 10BB) made by Montzka Woodworking is a great choice. It is available in the gift shop.
