We all love playing those great Nordic melodies, yet we marvel at how our favorite groups create harmonies that are so seamless and can alter our understanding of the melody. How do they do that? While tradition and innovation play a large role, much of the ‘art’ can be reduced to the ‘science’ of music theory. Understanding scales and keys, chord progressions, and the power of intervals can help all musicians thoughtfully approach their harmonization experiments. In this course, we’ll cover some easy-to-grasp theory, learn a few fiddle tunes, and then try our hands at harmonizing those melodies.

Intermediate and advanced musicians.

Please bring your fiddle and be prepared to play
