This is an online class hosted on Zoom. 

 

Join instructor Kim Garrett for an exploration into the rosemaling of Knut Hovden, the first rosemaler to be asked to teach at the folk school in Sand, Rogaland, Norway, where, under his influence, rosemaling continued to flourish in the first half of the 1900s.

The first evening, Kim will share Knut Hovden’s story and discuss several pieces of his work. The second day, you will paint a small project in his style.

Come learn about one of the rosemaling masters of the early twentieth century, as well as paint a piece inspired by his work.

This class will be taught in oils.

Supplies: 

A complete kit of supplies shipped to your home (a $75 value) containing paints, brushes, a wooden plate, is included in the cost of enrollment.

If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact folkartschool@vesterheim.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.
 

Additional Supplies:

Students will need to provide a computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and mic as well as a fast, reliable internet connection.

Prerequisites: 

 Basic rosemaling skills are desired.

You will receive links to the Zoom sessions by email sometime during the week prior to the class.
