There has been a tradition of carving household items in Norway. Splendid examples of these can be seen in the context of original old wooden buildings at the open air museum of Maihaugen near Lilehammar. Here you will find furnishings, many of which are painted or carved - or both. The various ornate styles of these are well illustrated in the seminal work on Norwegian ornamental carving by Johan Amrud and in the repertoire of the instructors at the "Senter for Bygdekultur" at Hjerleid Technical High School, where Amrud taught for many years and where you can learn the style. Sadly, Johan Amrud is no longer with us, but his patterns are available. NORWEGIAN KEY AND TWO SPOONS PATTERN
