Vesterheim, Exclusive!
Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum is now the exclusive source in the United States for art work and painting patterns by renowned Norwegian rosemaler Turid Helle Fatland. Fatland studied Norwegian folk-art for four years, including one year with master rosemaler Bergljot Lunde of Sand, Norway, and won first-place twice in Drsku’n in Selford, Telemark, in 1982 and 1983.
Fatland is especially drawn to the natural shapes of irregular bowls and other objects. “The natural shape of the bowls is an invitation to think in a new way,” she says. “The glaze must be almost transparent so the wood will shine through and be an important part of the design. Every bowl is unique.”
Turid Fatland first taught rosemaling at Vesterhein in 2006 and her classes quickly filled. She also taught Vesterheim students in Bø during two Vesterheim folk-art tours to Norway in 2007. Turid returned to teach two classes at Vesterheim in October 2008.
This bowl is 4 inches high and 15 inches in length.
